a welcomed distraction.. the leaf pattern baby hat

Since I finished another previously started project and only have 2 unfinished ( one of which will be completed by next weekend) I figured it was okay if I started a new project.

My mind is currently a mess, and not of the creative chaos sort that it usually is. Yesterday we put an offer on a house. 4 days ago we were talking about what a pain our current rental situation is and yesterday BAM! An offer was made. Oh my word. I half hope the offer is rejected because moving a whole hobby farm is a daunting task at best. And the house is mostly gutted.

2 or 3 years ago a gutted house would Have been a dream come true. Built it up the way I want with all the jar stuff already completed ( wiring, plumbing, code checks, permits, septic etc). Now? I just don't know if I can hang! Plus my pumpkins wont be mature yet and I'll have to watch them die. Again. Just like last time.

So enter the leaf baby hat. Loslts of counting and keeping track to distract my brain from the multitude of negative. Thoughts and " what ifs". I know I could just focus on the positive, but it would be too dissapointing and depressing having gone through this 3 TIMES already since we moved here 2 1/2 years ago ( Lover is fickle ).

So here's to knitting my blues, stress and future grey hairs away.

sfabric scraps are fun

Not only do I rarely trash my fabric scraps, but I pilfer them from others. You don't need to spare a dime, a bag of your crafting waste will do Just fine, thanks. I made this bib on the fly as Wells as another that didn't photograph well because I neglected to iron it.

I know a crap ton of preggos right now and am hoping to get there myself one day so quick, cute projects like this are just what the doctor ordered!

My baby hope chest is runnith' o'er so I need to make stuff for those who are ACTUALLY pregnant now ( but the bins I made yesterday don't count since I just announced this proclamation today ).

Xmas all over again. . .

Omg- a trend of mine is moving and typical of those on the move, she had a bunch of crap she didn't want to take with her thus beginning Betty B's second Yuletide holiday.

In my bounty I received several queen and king sized flat sheets as well as some yardage of fabrics including fleece.
WOW. You see that bright orange linen on the right? Yeah, I'm in love. I'm not quite sure what to do with it all but I can guarantee that there will be diapers, totebags, burp cloths, Pajama pants for the whole family, a skirt or two, bibs, toys, tab curtains and quilts....

Okay, so I guess I DO know what I'm going to do with it all ; -)

Invisibaby's hope chest

I haven't added much to the green, medium sized box that is Invisibabys hope chest. I had actual existing children that I spent my crafting time on, compliments birthdays and holidays.

I did score a boppy nursing pillow with cover for $1.50 at a second hand shop. I also bought a cute pink puff quilt but I abandoned it to my friends dogs after deciding all that pink was a bit presumptuous.

Its tax time and with the impending cash flow in the form of a return comes the flow of my TTC anxiety.

I have yet to have my first IUI (having spent all the money i saved on a herd of goats). Now that money is once again no longer and issue the fear is creeping its way back into my head.

I'm plagued by thoughts like ' what if it doesn't work' and ' what if lover loses the job'. .... WHAT IF THERE'S A ZOMBIE ATTACK!!' No, seriously....... I think about that crap.

I decided to dust off my needles and bring out some Invisibaby projects that I'd started previously and never finished. Suddenly all became right in my world. Fear And anxiety have been exiled to the back of my brain so visions of a very pregnant me ,milking goats and gathering duck eggs, could take their place.

I see myself wiping sweat from brow with the back of my hand, dutifully and lovingly hand stitching baby things on my back porch in the sweltering desert heat.

I know. Total nut job right?! Well, you.ask.anyone who knows me ( and some that don't). You'd be hard pressed to find someone who disagreed.

Brave's New Backpack

It lasted almost two years, that cute little green Dino pack. It held its own throughout brotherly tugs of war. It survived pummeling via washing machine. The little printed dinosaur face remained smiling day after day. But alas, the little backpack that could,couldn't.

The little hook loop worn thin and fraying finally gave way. The lime green exterior was mottled with blotches of who knows what that refused to be removed. And finally the last thing to go was the trusty zipper.

I'd hand sewed the hook loop back on several times. Scrubbed stubborn stains. The zipper however was a foe I couldn't make amends with. The little Dino backpack had died.

It did however find in the goodness of its heart the will to sacrifice its little straps so that Brave could have a new backpack. And with that new backpack Brave would carry along a little bit of Dino backpack so that their friendship may continue on through the school year and many school years to come. That is, until Froggy backpack meets the same ill fated end.

The Invisibaby Diaper Bag!!

This is the diaper bag I made for Invisibaby. The bottom picture is of the bag with the closing flap flipped open. The large print floral is actually two flat pockets. The inside has two more larger pockets stiffened with stablilizer. I haven't attached the strap yet because I need to go get large D rings but the strap is the large floral print as well and has a cellphone pocket. I had enough coordinating fabric to make a changing pad (sans batting for easier fit into the bag)), mei tai wrap and a wet bag!! The whole project took about 3 yards of fabric and cost about $7 (I bought 1/2 yard of the two print fabrics and the blue was left over from a project YEARS ago).

Designing the Perfect Diaper Bag!

With brave, we went through several diaper bag. Then when Mace came along, we added a couple more. They were all good bags, but not for the same thing. We had the GIANt diaper bag with only one small pocket. Thats the bag we started with, it it was just crap all the way around. Nxt bag, a little bit smaller but with lots of pockets. Good bag, but ugly, ugly, UGLY!! Then I made a couple more bags that doubled as diaper bag/purse, they were okay, but I could never find what I wanted because the bag was too deep.

Well, I can't make too many outfits for invisibaby because of the weather thing. A baby only needs to many bibs, so I think i'm played out on that craft. Whats left? diapers and of course, diaper bags. I saved all of the wool covers from my boys, they could use a little revamping though.

So what does 'the perfect' diaper bag have?

A large outer pocket for 'purse stuff' to avoid the need to carry two bags. A smaller, easily accessable pouch for cellphone. Maybe two compartments inside? once for small things like creams and such and one for wipe containers? I had an idea to make sort of an adapted messenger bag. There is a flikr group all about diaper bags and they have some cute stuff. Now I just need to decided what to do...

Baby-sitters and juggling

Good Morning! Today, I was supposed to be on a field trip for school, my school. I emailed my new sitter yesterday morning to confirm the time she needed to be at my house, which she had already agreen to 2 weeks prior when I booked her for that date. Well- I got a response email saying she moved to LA and couldn't make it. WTH!!! She could have told me oh.. I dunno... BEFORE she moved?!?!? So- I missed my trip. Not sure if the professor will let me make it up. She was my 4th sitter this year. My kids aren't that bad! One had a baby. One (our fav., moved to Colorado), one was chronically late so got fired, and now her.. Jeez Looooouise!!!! Anyway- since i'm sad that I missed my trip. I deserve a 'pep talk'. I'm thinking a trip to the craft store and a spin around me 'old studio. Sounds like some nice therapy to me, wouln't you agree? On another up note, "My Baby Rides The Short Bus" has finally been released and is available for purchase on Amazon.com. Its a book about parenting special needs kids, written by parents from alternative family structures, or people that don't live in 'Stepford'. Pick it up!!!
